Winter "Feeding" Deer, The Better Approach

The deep snow in WI has settled some (Still over 2ft) so I ventured out to check on the browse levels around my property. So far it looks like there is still plenty to eat and the deer I see look healthy but with another 4-5 weeks of high stress I will do what I can to help them out. Along my property walk I hinge cut a number of maples, oak branches and cedar branches that would otherwise be of little benefit to the deer because they were out of reach. Now  cut, the fresh buds, shoots and berries are well within the deer’s reach.  I also have several apple trees that were loaded with apples so knocked several pounds worth to the ground as I did a month ago and probably have enough apples to do this one more time before that resource is gone. The best thing about all of this is that is didn’t cost me a dime and it did not take long at all to do.
