Season Reports

Off Season Training

From: Shawn Vanlandingham

To say this spring has not been favorable to getting a lot done outside would be an understatement.  The weather has me behind with my scouting, planting and just plain old honey do’s around the home.   However, rain or shine there is always a place for me to go train for the upcoming season. To be the best hunter I can be I really took it upon myself to start a work out program to improve and prolong my photography career and to enhance how effective I can be out in the woods. Honestly, my training program started out slow for the first year but after a few tweaks and some added motivation I really got after it and ramped it up. It’s gone so well now that that I’ve had better results over the past six months than I did the previous 12.  What I love about a good training program is that this is one thing you can do where each time out is pretty much a win for you and your health not to mention getting you one step closer to that next buck.  What I’m personally doing is a mix but regardless I try and fit in a 3.5 to 4.5 mile run twice a week at my “pace” and then spend another 3 to 4 days a week at the gym with a mix of treadmill sprints and one mile runs at a faster pace along with weight training. Let us know in the forum what you’re doing!
