My buddy, Jason Plant, had some pretty nice bucks showing up on camera in January, and since I was tagged out, we decided it would be cool to bring my son, Jacob, down to try for one over the weekend of his 10th birtday! Due to Jacob’s basketball schedule, we really only had one choice for the weekend to go and it ended up being the warmest of the month…by far. 60° temps limited deer movement to very last light.
I’ve not imposed any sort of restriction on what Jacob should or shouldn’t shoot for his first deer, but Jacob’s decided on his own that he wants his first deer to be a buck, and “not a baby”. It doesn’t have to be huge or anything, but he set his own standard and stuck to it well. He passed a few does, and on our last sit, he even passed a young, half-rack forkhorn buck. All in all, it was an awesome father-son weekend and was great to hang out with my friend, Jason Plant, and also get caught up with my buddy Justin Hollandsworth over dinner one night. Jacob is an absolute joy to be a father to and I can’t wait for our next adventure together. Here are some pics from our weekend.
